Can the wife spend on herself from the estate of her deceased husband during the mourning period?

Question: 129923

My husband died and left behind a sum of money. Is it permissible for me to spend anything of it during the mourning period and ‘iddah?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.

Anything that you spend of this money is to be deducted from your share of the inheritance, unless the other heirs agree to overlook that. May Allah help us all to do that which pleases Him. End quote.
