Returning to Islaam

Question: 1490

Assalomu Aleykum

My Grandparents are Muslim people. My Parents consider themselves also as
Muslims, but they pray and fast time-to-time. They do not follow all roles in Islam.
As for me I just open Islam for myself. At the mean-time I am learning praying and
other questions about Islam with my Grandmother. This was the first I when I was
fasting. I understand that I did a lot of things wrong in the past. Will I be ever
forgiven for the sins I made in the past?

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.

Whoever repents, Allaah will turn to him in acceptance. Whoever seeks to draw closer to
Allaah, Allaah will draw closer to him. As you have been guided and have returned to Islam and
turned to Allaah, then rejoice in the news that Allaah has accepted your repentance and forgiven
you. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And verily, I am indeed Forgiving to him who repents, believes (in My Oneness, and
associates none in worship with Me) and does righteous good deeds, and then remains
constant in doing them, (till his death).” [Ta-Ha 20:82]
