Cosmetic surgery for the breasts

Question: 105464

I am a young man, eighteen years old. Four years ago, I developed chest fat (“male breasts”). That was accompanied by some pain; after a while, the pain disappeared, praise be to Allah, but the “male breasts” remained. They can clearly be seen under my clothes. I asked a specialist doctor about that, and he told me that they can easily be removed, by means of a cosmetic surgical procedure. Is it permissible for me to have such surgery? Please note that these “breasts” cause me a great deal of embarrassment in front of other people.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.

It is permissible for you to have a cosmetic procedure to remove these “breasts”, if it is thought most likely that the procedure will be successful and will not lead to any harm that is greater than or equal to its benefits.

And Allah is the source of strength. May Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions. End quote.
