Ruling on slaughtering an animal with the left hand
Question: 162299
Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.
There is nothing wrong with slaughtering an animal with the left hand.
The scholars of the Permanent Committee for Ifta’ were asked:
One day, I decided to make a waleemah (feast), and I brought a cook to make food for my guests. I was startled to see that cook slaughtering the animal with his left hand, whilst saying Bismillah and reciting the takbeer that is enjoined according to Islamic teachings: “Bismillahi wa Allahu akbar (In the name of Allah and Allah is most great).” I shouted at him: “No, not like that!” And he said to me: “I asked permission from the shaykhs and they gave me permission to slaughter with my left hand.”
They replied: There is nothing wrong with that, but slaughtering with the right hand is better, if that is possible.
