Whilst browsing Instagram, I came across a page for a shop that sells flowers and chocolates, which writes the phrases “Ma sha’ Allah” and “Al-hamdu Lillah” on chocolates. When I expressed my objection to the matter (in a polite manner), because of what it involves of disrespect to the name of Allah, as the chocolates will be eaten, the owner of the shop replied that I should bring her a fatwa from a scholar, instead of from myself. So here I am telling you of the matter, so that you may give a decision concerning it, even though to my mind, no Muslim who has any understanding could accept such a thing.

What is the ruling on writing the name of Allah on cakes and chocolate?

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.
I put this question to our shaykh, ‘Abd ar-Rahmaan al-Barraak (may Allah preserve him), and he said:
Writing the name of Allah on food is a kind of disrespect, because it is done by way of extravagance and for amusement, and this is contrary to the respect that is due to the name of Allah, may He be exalted. Similarly, cutting it up to be eaten is also a kind of disrespect.
