Ruling on following the translation of the Friday khutbah on one’s cell phone whilst listening to it
Question: 233591
What is the ruling on using screens or a cell phone app that translates the khutbah whilst the imam is delivering it, for one who does not understand Arabic, and the listener follows the translation on his cell phone?
Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.
I put this question to our shaykh, ‘Abd ar-Rahmaan al-Barraak (may Allah preserve him) and he said:
There is nothing wrong with that, and this does not come under the heading of fidgeting that is prohibited, because it is done for a need, and not by way of messing about. End quote.
