Does the father have to pay for the children to travel to visit their divorced mother?
Question: 4459
the children from a previous
marriage were living with me.their mother moved 400 miles away and remarried. she claims
that it is my duty to provide the children with transportation to visit her. is that true?

We put this question to Shaykh Muhammad ibn
Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen, may Allaah preserve him, who answered as follows:
No, that is not correct, but if Allaah has made the husband
rich and the wife’s position is average or less, then it is part of chivalry or
manliness that he should pay for that – but it is not obligatory. And Allaah knows
best.
