A woman was told by the doctor to give
her child an injection once every two days, but because of her love for him and her desire
to hasten his recovery, she gave the dosage every day, and her child died. What is the
ruling in this case?

Answer
Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.
This woman has to pay the diyah (blood money), because she was of sound mind. The kafaarah (expiation) is to free a slave, but if this is not possible then she has to fast two consecutive months. Mothers have to be very careful in such cases, and they have to follow the doctor’s instructions.
