Some people take money for doing Hajj on behalf of someone else because of sickness of on behalf of one who has died. His family give some money so as to discharge his duty; the amount is approximately 3000 – 4000 riyals, from which he spends on the expenses of Hajj, such as the fidyahs and other things, and the rest he keeps for himself to buy provisions and other things. Is that valid?.
Taking money for doing hajj on behalf of one who is sick or deceased
Question: 109312
Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.
If one person gives money to another to do Hajj on his behalf because he is unable to do Hajj himself, or so that he can do Hajj on behalf of someone who is deceased, that is valid, if the proxy has already done Hajj for himself, and he may spend this money on doing Hajj on his behalf, and keep what is left. But if he gives him money to do Hajj and tells him to give back what is left, then he should spend on what he needs and return the rest to him.
And Allah is the Source of strength. May Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions. End quote.
