Is it permissible for a woman who is travelling on a Friday to put Zuhr prayer together with ‘Asr, if she is in the house, and what is the ruling if she is in the mosque; can she put the prayers together or not?
Is it permissible for a woman who is travelling to put Zuhr and ‘Asr together on a Friday?
Question: 152847
Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.
Firstly:
It is permissible for the traveller to put together Zuhr and ‘Asr, and Maghrib and ‘Isha’, at the time of the earlier or later prayer, according to whatever is easier for him.
Secondly
Jumu‘ah prayer is not obligatory for women, but if a woman prays Jumu‘ah with the imam in the mosque, it is valid on her part.
Ibn Qudaamah (may Allah have mercy on him) said in al-Mughni (2/88):
Being male is a condition of Jumu‘ah being obligatory and Jumu‘ah cannot be done and regarded as valid unless it is done by a group of men, because for men there should be a group of men who come together to pray Jumu‘ah, and women are not expected to attend the gatherings of men. But it is valid if offered by a woman, because it is valid for her to join the congregation, because the women used to pray with the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in congregation. End quote.
The scholars of the Permanent Committee for Ifta’ said:
Jumu‘ah is not obligatory for women, but if a woman prays Jumu‘ah with the imam, her prayer is valid, and if she prays in her house, then she should pray Zuhr with four rak‘ahs, after the time for the prayer has begun."(Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa’imah 8/212).
Thirdly:
It is not permissible to put Jumu‘ah prayer and ‘Asr prayer together, because according to the religious texts, only Zuhr and ‘Asr may be put together, and it is not permissible to make an analogy between Jumu‘ah and Zuhr in this case, because of the many differences between the two prayers.
This has been discussed previously in the answer to question no. 26198 .
Based on the above:
If the woman is travelling on a Friday, and she did not pray Jumu‘ah with the people in the mosque, then she may put Zuhr and ‘Asr together at the time of the earlier or later prayer, according to what is easy for her.
If she is in the mosque and she did not pray Jumu‘ah with the people, and she wants to put Zuhr and ‘Asr together, she may do that.
