False, fabricated hadeeth stating that the believer will prostrate to his wife in Paradise because of her beauty!

Question: 181501

There is a hadeeth that I heard but I do not know how sound it is. In fact I have not found the hadeeth in written form anywhere, and I do not know if it exists at all. The one who said it did not mention any source. The hadeeth says something to the effect that when a man enters upon his wife in paradise he will be dazzled by her beauty, and will think that she is Allah, so he will prostrate to her. She will say to him: What are you doing? He will say: You are very beautiful and I thought that you were Allah. She will say: Rather I am your wife from the (former) world. Is this hadeeth sound or not?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.

This is not a hadeeth; rather these are false and reprehensible words that are distasteful offensive to the listener. The believers will recognise their Lord on the Day of Resurrection and will have the utmost joy in Paradise of gazing upon Him, as is the belief of Ahl as-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa‘ah. Please see the answer to question no. 14525

Al-Bukhaari (806) and Muslim (182) narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the people said: O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection? He said: “Do you have any trouble seeing the moon clearly on the night when it is full when there are no clouds?” They said: No, O Messenger of Allah. He said: “Do you have any trouble seeing the sun clearly at noon when there are no clouds?” They said: No. He said: “You will see Him in like manner. The people will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection, then He will say: ‘Whoever used to worship anything, let him follow it.’ So some of them will follow the sun, some will follow the moon, some will follow the false gods, and this ummah will remain, including its hypocrites. Then Allah will come to them and will say: ‘I am your Lord.’ They will say: ‘We will stay here until our Lord comes, and when our Lord comes, we will recognize Him.’ Allah will come to them and will say: ‘I am your Lord,’ and they will say, ‘You are our Lord.’ He will call them, and the siraat will be set up over Hell, and I will be the first of the Messengers to cross it with my ummah. On that day, no one but the Messengers will speak, and the prayer of the Messengers will be: ‘O Allah, grant safety, grant safety!’”

According to another version: “There will remain this ummah, including its hypocrites.  Then Allah will come in a form other than the form which they know, and He will say, ‘I am your Lord.’ They will say: ‘We seek refuge in Allah from you. We will stay here until our Lord comes, and when our Lord comes, we will recognize Him.’ Then Allah will come to them in the form which they know, and will say, ‘I am your Lord.’ They will say, ‘You are our Lord,’ and they will follow Him.”

Muslim narrated from Suhayb, that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “When the people of Paradise have entered Paradise, Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, will say: ‘Do you want anything more?’ They will say: ‘Have You not brightened our faces and admitted us to Paradise and saved us from the Fire?’ Then He will remove the veil, and they will not be given anything that is more dear to them than gazing upon their Lord (may He be glorified and exalted).”

In these reports we see that the believers will see their Lord and will recognise Him on the Day of Resurrection and after they enter Paradise. So how can it be said that when the believer sees his wife among the hoor al-‘iyn, he will prostrate to her, thinking that she is Allah?!

“Glory be to You (O Allah) this is a great lie” [an-Noor 24:16].

Please see the answer to question no. 60188 for information on the description of the hoor al-‘iyn in the Qur’an and Sunnah.

And Allah knows best.
