Ruling on removing hair from the moustache, armpits and pubes of the deceased, and trimming his nails
Question: 21595
Is it permissible to trim the moustache, armpit hairs, nails and pubic hairs of the deceased?
Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.
It is mustahabb to trim his moustache and clip his nails. As
for shaving his pubic hair and plucking his armpit hair, I do not know of
any evidence to indicate that this is prescribed in sharee’ah, so it is
better not to do that, because these areas are hidden and not visible like
the nails and moustache.
Majmoo’ Fataawa wa Maqaalaat Mutanawwi’ah li Samaahat
al-Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on
him), vol. 13, p. 114
The Shaykh (may Allaah have mercy on him) was also asked:
Should the nails and moustache of the deceased be trimmed?
He replied:
There is no evidence to indicate that. If they are trimmed a
little, there is nothing wrong with that. Some of the scholars stated that
the nails and moustache should be trimmed. As for shaving the pubes and
circumcision, it is not prescribed to do these things in the case of one who
is deceased, because there is no evidence to indicate that they should be
done.
