Raising the voice during a funeral

This is a reprehensible action for which there is no basis in
the pure sharee’ah. Rather what is prescribed when following a funeral
cortege is to remember the Hereafter and death, and to pray for forgiveness
and mercy for the deceased, without raising one’s voice. Qays ibn ‘Abbaad,
the great Taabi’i (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: The Companions of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to dislike (loud) voices on three occasions: at funerals, when reciting dhikr and when fighting.
