She works in a store and some money was stolen from it, and she is afraid that she will be accused

Question: 88047

I am a woman who works in a store selling clothes. Some money was stolen from the store in which I work, and what happened was beyond my control and it was not due to any shortcoming on my part. I do not know what to do. Should I tell the owner of the store? Please note that this man is suspicious and will accuse me straightaway. I am afraid to tell him about that for fear of my reputation, but I cannot pay back the money because my financial situation will not allow it. What should I do?.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.

If you did not fall short in looking after the money or in staying in the store and keeping an eye on what was in it, then there is no blame on you. You have to tell the owner of the store. That may be better than him finding out by himself that that money is missing. All you have to do is delegate your affairs to Allaah, may He be glorified and exalted, and trust that He will show you to be innocent.

But if what happened was because of neglect on your part, then you have to pay back the money to the owner of the shop, unless he lets you off.

And Allaah knows best.
