Punishment for Slander in Islam
The punishment for one who slanders a chaste person is eighty lashes. This punishment prevents accusations of immorality; protects people’s honour from being transgressed; protects their reputations from being tarnished; prevents enmity and grudges; and prevents the spread of rumours among the believers.121,049Is it permissible for the one who has been accused of adultery to pardon the one who accused him and waive the punishment for him?
