All the ways of offering Witr prayer have been mentioned in the Sunnah, but the best way is not to stick to one particular way; rather one should do it one way one time and another way another time, so that one will have done all the Sunnahs. Istikharah prayer is a Sunnah. Istikharah means seeking guidance as to what Allah knows is the best and most appropriate choice. Istikharah implies submission to the command of Allah and a practical demonstration that one has no power and no strength of one’s own.

The adhan and iqamah are only for the obligatory prayers. But for Tarawih, Witr and other optional (nafl) prayers, there is no adhan or iqamah.

It is better to offer sunnah prayers at home unless it is Sunnah to pray them in congregation in the mosque, such as th Eclipse prayer and nafl prayers before Jumu`ah.

Witr prayer is a confirmed sunnah according to the majority of scholars. Whoever omits to pray Witr deliberately is a bad man, whose testimony should not be accepted.
