When a baby is born, it is recommended to do tahnik for the baby and to pray for him. It is permissible to name the child on the first day or on the seventh. It is recommended to offer aqiqah. It is sunnah to give adhan into the baby’s right ear.


What to Do When a Baby Is Born

Should she offer a sacrifice (udhiyah) or offer ‘aqeeqah for herself, as her father did not offer ‘aqeeqah on her behalf?

He slaughtered one sheep as ‘aqeeqah for a boy a while ago; can he slaughter another sheep now?

Since there is no authentic Hadith which speaks of shaving the head of a newborn female, the principle remains, which is that it is forbidden to shave the head.


Is It Sunnah to Shave the Hair of a Newborn Girl?

If he ate the entire ‘aqeeqah and did not give any of it in charity

1.	&#8216;Aqiqah refers to the sacrifice that is offered on behalf of the newborn on the seventh day after birth.
2.	There are sahih ahadith from the Prophet which prove that ‘aqiqah is prescribed in Islam.
3.	It is prescribed to slaughter two sheep for a newborn boy and one sheep for a girl, as is indicated by the saheeh evidence.
4.	The best time for offering the ‘aqiqah is seven days after birth.
