The basic principle is that you should not accept any kind of gifts given on your birthday whether they are given to you on the same day or afterwards. Accepting birthday gifts implies approval of the occasion and helps to perpetuate it. So you should excuse yourself from accepting them, with the best of manners.


Is It Prohibited to Accept Birthday Gifts?

Celebrating Mawlid al-Nabi (the Prophet’s birthday) was not prescribed by Allah or by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So, it is not permissible for the Muslims to celebrate his birthday, in obedience to the command of Allah and the command of His Prophet.

They choose a day on which to speak about the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in the mosque and they call it a Mawlid

The correct opinion is that Salatul Tasbih is not sunnah (from the prophetic teachings), and that the hadith about it is weak for several reasons which are detailed below.
