The hadith “Faith has seventy-odd – or sixty-odd – branches, the best of which is saying La ilaha ill-Allah (there is no god worthy of worship except Allah), and the least of which is removing something harmful from the road, and modesty is a branch of faith” states that faith has many branches and characteristics, but it does not state the ruling on each branch; rather it indicates that they are of various levels of importance. The fact that they are listed under the heading of faith does not mean that they are all obligatory, because when the word faith (iman) appears on its own, it includes all good and righteous deeds, both obligatory and recommended.

The best 3 means to increase your faith are: 1- Learning about Allah through His names and attributes; 2- Observing the signs of Allah in the universe and the signs of Shari`ah; 3- Performing many acts of worship.

Belief in the unseen is the test of a person’s faith. The unseen includes everything that people cannot grasp with their senses. It refers to everything of which the Revelation has told us, what happened in the past and what exists now but is hidden from us, such as the world of the angels, Al-barzakh, and what will happen in the future, such as the Day of Resurrection, and what will happen on that Day of the reckoning, punishment and bliss.

Ahl As-Sunnah unanimously agreed that faith is words and deeds, or verbal affirmation, belief in the heart and physical actions. The basis for this scholarly consensus is many texts of the Quran and Sunnah which indicate that words and deeds are part of faith.
