The scholars said that leftover water from which a dog has drunk and the saliva of dogs are impure, and that vessels and garments licked by a dog must be washed seven times, one of them being with earth.

The Shafi`i and Hanbali scholars say that the whole dog is essentially impure. Some scholars say that any liquid excreted by the dog is impure (not the dog itself). The saliva of the dog is extremely impure.
